Updates to AboutKidsHealth’s mental health resource

Over the next few months, CAPHC Conversations will be featuring articles and resources from the AboutKidsHealth website.  For more information on AboutKidsHealth, check out their website, or contact Sean Schurr at sean.schurr@sickkids.ca.

AboutKidsHealth has added more mental health information for families and healthcare providers to the Mental Health Resource Centre. Phase two of the project includes 21 new pages under the following categories:

  • wellbeing (nutrition, exercise, sleep, screen time)
  • obsessive compulsive disorder
  • depression
  • bipolar disorder.

These topics add to the existing information on anxiety, suicide and self-harm prevention and eating disorders.

The Mental Health Resource Centre is the result of collaboration between SickKids experts in mental health, knowledge translation and website design. The goal of the resource centre is to provide families and healthcare providers with trusted, evidence-based support and advice.

The third and final phase of the Mental Health Resource Centre will be published in late 2016 and will cover ADHD, behavioural disorders, trauma and neurological conditions.

Health care providers are encouraged to share the Mental Health Resource Centre with patients and families. You can access the content easily through www.aboutkidshealth.ca/mentalhealth.

AboutKidsHealth is SickKids’ patient-education website and features more than 3,500 articles on a range of paediatric health topics. For more information on mental health and other topics, please visit www.aboutkidshealth.ca.

The CAPHC team is always interested in learning more about what is happening in the paediatric health care community. If you have a program, event, website, or initiative that you would like to share with the country, email info@caphc.org for more information.
