Child First Initiative - Statement from the Federal Government

Good afternoon CAPHC Members,

This afternoon I had the opportunity to connect directly with Tyler Meredith in the Prime Minister's Office to discuss a statement the Federal Government released over the noon hour in regard to the Child First Initiative (Jordan's Principle).

As you know, the Human Rights Tribunal has been actively reviewing and refining the definition of Jordan's Principle, and it's application. A series of rulings has resulted over the course of the past six months, and the federal government has been taking measures to address these rulings and implement directives ever since, in an effort to ensure First Nations children receive the best care possible.

Today, the Federal Minister of Health and the Federal Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs have formally submitted a request of the Tribunal to seek clarity as it relates to two aspects of the ruling: One with respect to service standards, and one with respect to the prohibition of case coordination/conferencing.

In the links below you will find further details of their request.

If you have any questions or concerns about the request, please feel free to reach out to me directly. If you see any further role for our Association, I would also love to hear from you.
