As our COO, you will take your place on our leadership team, charged with the mission of the IWK, strategically planning how we work to our goals, monitoring our progress and constantly seeking ways we can improve.
There is a lot that we do well, building on a century of talented teams and feedback from our patients and families. The IWK cares for a population of two million women, children, youth and families across the Maritimes. As one of two provincial health authorities in Nova Scotia, we are shaping, cultivating and stewarding the health agenda for families and has chartered an ambitious course to world-class outcomes.
There are areas in which we can improve and this role will be a key driver of our future successes. Reporting to the President & CEO, the Chief Operating Officer is accountable for the effective, efficient and accountable management of the finance and non-clinical operations of the IWK Health Centre. As the chief financial executive of the organization, you ensure that financial accounting, internal controls, reporting and financial management are consistent with generally accepted professional principles and are supportive of the effective management of the organization. You are also responsible for physical and technical infrastructure and services, including technology, diagnostic services, space and physical plant. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you bring intentional leadership and expert advice to the organization, often engaging with peers or external partners on significant strategic initiatives. Your understanding of board governance and ability to inform and support the decision-making processes of the Board of Directors will be integral to success in this role.
The successful candidate will focus on leading major transformation initiatives, including capital redevelopment and technology renewal. Driving joint strategic opportunities, forming new partnerships and collaborations will be an expectation and should be evident in your track record of achievement and commitment to ongoing process improvement. You are an inspiring and strategic and respected for your ability to develop and sustain high performing and engaged teams. As the ideal candidate, you have a professional accounting designation, or relevant graduate degree with direct experience leading the finance function in complex organizations. You have a proven track record in leading change and transformation at the executive level, and working closely in partnership with the CEO and Board of Directors. Healthcare expertise is preferred, as well as a strong understanding of the Maritime communities, culture and partnerships that define our environment. We believe that organizations perform better when senior leadership reflects a diversity of lived experiences, cultures and languages and welcome interest from all those who feel they have the talent for this position.
