The British Betrayal of Childhood: Challenging Uncomfortable Truths and Bringing About Change

Children’s Healthcare Canada would like to congratulate long time friend and colleague of the Canadian child and youth healthcare community, Sir Al Aynsley Green, on the release of his new book, The British Betrayal of Childhood: Challenging Uncomfortable Truths and Bringing About Change.

The book draws heavily on Sir Al’s 40+ years of working with and for children as paediatric in the United Kingdom, including his time as the first Children’s Commissioner of England and President of the British Medical Association.

In the book, Sir Al demands to know why outcomes for the UK’s children for health, education, social care, youth justice and poverty remain among the worst in the developed world. He draws global comparisons and offers astute observations of the realities of being a young person in Britain today, to show how government policies have been shamefully failing children on a grand scale.

Written reflecting his experiences in the UK, the book will certainly resonate with many in the Canadian child and youth health community.
